Do you know what June 4th is?!

If you answered Applesauce Cake Day, Old Maid's Day or Hug Your Cat Day, you are correct! You are probably also an old maid who feeds your cats LOTS of applesauce cake!

But more importantly, it is National Running Day!

From National Running Day's website…

"National Running Day, held annually on the first Wednesday in June, is a day when runners everywhere declare their passion for running.

Since 2009, the country's foremost running organizations have worked together to celebrate our sport with thousands of participants on the first Wednesday of June. We encourage runners to join in by planning a run, spreading the running bug to a friend, signing up for a race, or setting a new goal. "

The Narberth Beer Runner's regularly scheduled first Wednesday run happens to fall on National Running Day, so we'll take part by listing our run as a meet up group through the National Running Day website. National Running Day also encourages runners to raise funds through Charity Miles, so if you are feeling charitable, check out their website as well!

There is no need to sign up for the meet up group, its just another way to get the Beer Runners message out there. Just show up at the train station at 6:30 as usual! We'll be running to the Greek's in downtown Narberth, which loves hosting old maids, cat huggers and applesauce cake lovers!

Check back on Sunday evening for further information about the run!

Upcoming Races!

Two great, local non-profit organizations are hosting races this weekend… they are both Sunday morning at 9…so you'd have to be REALLY fast to do both!

The Radnor Conservancy hosts their annual Race for Open Space 5K on Sunday, June 1st. This race takes place in two adjacent Radnor Township parks- The Willows and Skunk Hollow Park. Some of the course runs over park roads, turf grass fields and open meadows. But the race will be won or lost, and PR's will be made and missed, on the single track earthen paths through the woods! The single track winds through mature forest, while mixing in steep climbs and fast descents! Its a challenging course, a fun atmosphere and a great cause!

For registration details, check out: Run the Day!

The Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail host their third annual Trail Trot 5K on Sunday, June 1st. The race is a fundraiser for ongoing improvements to the trail. If you haven't visited the Cynwyd Trail yet, this race is a great opportunity to see the newest link in our regional trail network! The race starts at the Barmouth Parking Area (here) at 9 am.

The Cynwyd Heritage Trail is a 1.75 mile paved and soft surface rail trail, with trail heads at the Cynwyd Train Station and the intersection of Belmont and Rock Hill Roads. If you can't make the race, try to get over there for a training run, bike ride or leisurely walk. Best of all, its only 2 miles from Narberth!

For registration details, check out: The Friends of the Cynwyd Heritage Trail website.

No one got lost!

Rick raises a glass of Thomas Creek Banana Split Chocolate Banana Stout, while a well lit Josh McNamara leads the toast to the Professor.
A group of about 20 Fishtown Beer Runners, Narberth Beer Runners and others made their way from Lloyd Hall on Boathouse Row, all the way to the Greek's, covering approximately 8 miles in the process.  The distance was broken up into shorter segments, with a few predetermined meeting points along the way, so the group was able to stay together for most of the run.

Fishtown and Narberth Beer Runners enjoy food and cold draft beers at the Greek's.
While there was some discussion about which side of City Ave is better, there was a lot of friendly chatter throughout the run. The course took the runners past some of the best scenery in Philadelphia, Lower Merion and Narberth, including Boathouse Row and the Art Museum, West Fairmount Park, the Merion Botanical Garden, the Barnes Estate, the south side of Narberth and the painted bridge!

Keep an eye on www.fishtownbeerrunners.com and www.narberthbeerrunners.blogspot.com for more information about each of the clubs!

Fishtown comes to Narberth!

If you check out the Fishtown Beer Runners website, you can find photos of them wearing their shirts all around the world (like this nerd, in Key West).  Well, this weekend, they are going to….NARBERTH!

FBR is holding a fun run this Saturday, May 24th and Narberth Beer Runners plan to join in! The run starts at Lloyd Hall on Boathouse Row at 10 am and finishes at The Greek's for post run rehydration. See all of the details on the Fishtown Beer Runners Facebook event page. As always, all paces and experience levels are welcome!

The total distance is around 8 miles. If you aren't up for the full 8 miles or getting to Lloyd Hall that morning, then consider looking at the route, running from Narberth and simply meeting the group somewhere on the course. The Barnes Estate is about 2 miles from the Greeks on the FBR route, so that may be a good place to join in...

Or of course, just meet up at the Greeks!

If you've been thinking about running with either the Narberth or Fishtown Beer Runners, this is a great opportunity to raise a few glasses with both clubs!

Run Number 2.

The littlest runner

Great run in the slight drizzle to McShea's bar tonight. A two and a half mile run through town amongst the blooming spring flowers and trees. Our littlest runner kept pace in a Bob Jogging stroller and joined us for french fries at the bar.

Join us on June 4th for our next run! A new route will be posted shortly and the destination bar will be The Greeks.

Rain or shine...

...we run!

If conditions are horrible, we may shorten the group run. Participants are all free to choose their own route if running in the rain just isn't your thing. Start at the train station at 6:30, end up at McShea's...what happens in between is up to you!

NBR Inaugural Run!!!

Rick and Tyler discuss how many pints of Guinness will be necessary for adequate re hydration.

On Wednesday, May 7th, Rick, Tyler, Carolyn and Maria dodged the raindrops to complete a 2 mile run through Narberth, ending at McShea's on Haverford Avenue. Guinness and hefeweizens were the preferred options for post run hydration. McShea's laid back atmosphere and friendly staff were the perfect setting for Narberth Beer Runners and you can be sure we'll be back there soon....like in two weeks!
